Results of the OSSATE 1st International Workshop, London 12-13 May 2005

Introduction

The OSSATE Project Team at VisitBritain organised the first OSSATE International Workshop in London 12 and13 May 2005. The workshop was attended by 67 participants from 11 countries representing 41 different organisations.

The aim of the Workshop was to create an informed awareness of OSSATE among a wide range of potential stakeholders. These included individuals and organisations, both from Britain and across Europe, with an interest in accessibility.

Part One of the Workshop was dedicated to presentations by the OSSATE partners. The European Commission and European Tourism Commission representatives set the scene concerning the project's European support and scope, while each OSSATE partner organisation gave presentations outlining their experience in the various disciplines covered by the project. The first of these was by Ivor Ambrose, OSSATE Project Co-ordinator from lead partner EWORX, who outlined the project objectives and approach.

Part Two of the event was devoted to workshop sessions which gave delegates the opportunity to contribute to discussions on the following key issues:

  1. Challenges to presenting accessibility information via new media channels
  2. Web personalisation/Customer Relationship Management; benefits all round?
  3. 45 million Europeans - a major commercial opportunity?
  4. Challenges and opportunities for destinations in presenting a holistic experience for
    visitors with access requirements
